EXCESSIVE FACIAL SWEATING CAUSES AND TREATMENTS
Excessive facial sweating can be a nuisance to anyone who experiences it. Excessive head sweating is not like normal head sweating. Normal head sweating occurs to cool your body. In fact, your body loses the most heat from your head. Your head and face has a lot of surface area over which sweat evaporates. Evaporation causes cooling.
Excessive facial sweating is a condition where simply too much sweat occurs to the point where it can not benefit you in terms of cooling. In fact, the excessive facial sweating can act as an insulator of moisture and can drive your temerature through the ceiling.
Excessive facial sweating is generally caused by 2 forms of what is known as hyperhidrosis or hyperhydrosis, which is the medical terminology for excessive perspiration. The first form of hyperhidrosis is called "primary" hyperhidrosis whereby the cause of the sweating has no known source. This is also called idiopathic hyperhidrosis. The 2nd form of hyperhidrosis is called "secondar" hyperhidrosis. This is a more serious form of sweating disorder for which the underlying cause could be related to a thyroid problem, a tumor on your adrenal gland called a "pheocromocytoma", diabetes, obesity, anxiety or some other medical condition. Excessive facial sweating can be treated successfully by a medication called Ditropan. This is an anti-cholinergic which essentially dries out your body. You can ask your Dr. for a prescription. Start with a low dose of 2 mg per day, 2-3 times per day.
